17 April 1999
Crew : JB, Tom Brown, Pauline Bradley
Arrived at Glengarriff at 14:00, went to pub for lunch rowed the dinghy out to the yacht and then moored alonside the big fishing boat at the end of the pier. Tom & Pauline pulled JB up the mast to try and re-fit the topping lift. This proved to be too difficult so we just rigged the mainsail without it.
Rigged the jib & the reefing lines then had pizza for dinner before retiring to the pub.
18 April (Log 3650)
Arose at 9:30 and set-off at 10:00. Wind very light from SW. Tacked slowly out passed the Galway Hooker "Saint Patrick" which had arrived from Dublin the night before. Had breakfast under way and enjoyed the scenery.
It was very beautiful sailing passed Garinish island, we trolled a fishing lure, which was lost, then a cod lure which remained slack so we had a tin of tuna & salad for lunch.
Wind was too light to sail far so we just went to Whiddy island and then returned to Glengariff. The conditions were very gentle so we tried to approach the mooring under sail. The tide was at low-water springs and we hit a rock near dock island, with great force , spilling my glass of wine, and surprising Tom who was at the bow preparing the mooring lines. We turned the engine on and dropped the sails and made a normal approach to the mooring. Tidied up the boat and returned by dinghy to the pier to leave at 17:30.
Sun 6 June 1999 (Log 20 miles)
Crew: JB, Rebbecca O'Louglin
Arrived at 16:00, got a lift out to the boat with the Garinish Ferry. Tied onto the pier bows-to to load the luggaafe. Left under Jib at 17:30 for Adrigole. Weather was mixed, blustery conditions wind N F5-7, intermitent light showers and long-periods of sunshine; very pleasant. Arrived at Adrigole in Windy conditions, gusting to F7. Tied onto one of the vistor's moorings, very pleasant conditions.
Mon 7 June
Arose at 10:00, inflated Mimsy (The dinghy) and rowed ashore in very
pleasant weather. Walked to the shop and pub (too early for
a drink) and returned via the Adrigole river which appeared to be full
of trout. Had breakfast and set off for Glengariff at 13:30.
Mindfull of the squally conditions we rigged a deep reef and full jib.
Pleasant sail back getting sunburnt, no fish. Packed and cleared
up on the mooring by 18:00.
